Imagine a world with seven isles separated by a sea so treacherous that ships never attempted to sail inside the channels. The trade system rely solely on the tidal bridges, at low tides they could cross between isles. Tidal bridges would have their own schedules; some were available a couple of times a day, some a couple of times a month, and one only a few days a couple of times a year. Amrie, an orphaned girl, was granted the most precious gift of Grasdalen people, the Bonding with the Viska wolf, Palori. From the day they were born until the day they die, they will be inseparable. Adopted by the Chieftain, and thrust into a life where Amrie is different on every level. She looks different, she is one of only three Bonded pairs in existence, and early on they realize her magic is unlike anything they have seen before. To fit in, Amrie begs Palori try to help her bury their powers that set them apart from the others, and he finally concedes.
As they enter adulthood, a coup to overthrow The Council shatters their world, by people influenced by an ancient dark magic. A handful of them flee to a neighboring Isle; destroying the tidal bridge behind them and severing their home from the rest of the world. Amrie, Palori and their group journey to the Isle of Mellan to where her father, the Chieftain is, but they soon discover they are being hunted by a spirit army.
Now Palori must convince Amrie it is time to let loose all the power they have been hiding. To finally show the world how different they really are. Amrie is torn between a lifetime of wanting to fit in to the world that won’t ever accept her and saving the world that will never love her for who she truly is.
